Leading the way in environmental design

Incorporating emission-reducing and water-saving initiatives, Green Square Town Centre is set to become Australia’s greenest new urban space.

Sustainable Sydney 2030 is the City of Sydney’s vision for the sustainable development of the City to 2030 and beyond. It includes ten strategic directions to guide the future of the City and ten targets to measure progress.

Combining leading standards in sustainable design with the promotion of public transport use, cycling and walking, Green Square Town Centre is an important development project to help realise the Sustainable Sydney 2030 targets.

The City of Sydney is currently investigating the use of Green Transformer technology at Green Square Town Centre – to achieve the City’s target of a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 (from 2006 levels). This technology could potentially supply energy to the development sites and to the wider Town Centre. Landcom, Mirvac and Leighton Properties are currently considering a range of environmental initiatives, including:

• Buildings designed to directly connect to the Green Transformer (subject to the delivery of the Green Transformer technology by the City of Sydney)

• Future connection to recycled water sources for utilities, with dual reticulation in all buildings (subject to delivery by the City of Sydney)

• Rainwater harvesting

• Energy efficient lighting and appliances

• Integrated waste management plan and organic composting in residential buildings

• Recycling 60% of construction and demolition waste.
