The Green Square Town Centre is unique in that involves the creation of a new urban centre around a planned network of public spaces. The features of the Town Centre means that it has all the attributes to become a thriving and successful Town Centre.
New public plazas will be the focus for the Town Centre, providing spaces for a range of cultural and community activities, and encouraging social interaction. The plazas will incorporate water features and public art, creating memorable and distinctive spaces.
A new park will provide open, green space to relax in, while a landscaped boulevard will provide a grand entrance to the Town Centre.
Elements within the public domain, such as street furniture, signage and public art, will help to create a distinctive identity for Green Square Town Centre.
New cycleways and walkways will make moving around easy, all adding to the lifestyle that Green Square Town Centre will provide.
Award-winning architecture
The Town Centre’s planning framework is a blueprint for excellence in every aspect of urban design. With the City of Sydney and Landcom’s leadership, the Town Centre is set to deliver new standards in architectural excellence – building on the principles established by the previous international design competition.
Sustainability
Both the City of Sydney and Landcom are committed to a sustainable Town Centre, incorporating environmental, social and economic aspects. This is known as the Triple Bottom Line, where environmental and social matters are considered alongside the economic outcomes.
It is expected that the Town Centre will become a flagship for sustainable development, creating a clean and green new community. This will include measures for water management, energy efficiency, minimising car use, social development and the provision of appropriate community facilities, and long term economic viability.
