About

The Waterloo Incinerator commenced operation in 1972 and was used to incinerate municipal waste from neighbouring councils including Waverley and Woollahra. Its operation was controversial to say the least, with local residents complaining about pollution for most of its existence. The Incinerator was closed in 1997 after considerable community protest and has remained disused since this time.

The Waterloo Incinerator site forms part of the Green Square Town Centre, an urban renewal project that will create a vibrant residential, commercial and cultural heart for the Green Square area. Further information about the Green Square Town Centre is available at www.gstc.com.au

Landcom has been involved in planning for the Green Square Town Centre for many years and will continue to be involved in its delivery. On behalf of the City of Sydney, Landcom is the project manager for delivery of infrastructure and public domain areas for the new Town Centre.

Landcom is also representing the State Government as a major developer within the Town Centre and is purchasing the Waterloo Incinerator site in this role.

Demolition of the Waterloo Incinerator site is the first step in bringing the Green Square Town Centre to reality.
